Jennifer Lopez is sick of 'all the old clichés about women'.
The 45-year-old singer and actress has been labelled a 'cougar' in the past due to dating younger men.
And it's a title she believes is long overdue for retirement as it perpetuates inequality between the sexes.
'All
the old clichés about women need to be undone. Enough already,' she
told America's Self magazine. 'We're in the other position now. We are
desirable older, we can date younger guys and it's not this big taboo.
Men have been doing this for years, and it's no big deal. Enough with
the clichés about women. We can date younger guys. it's no big deal.'
Jennifer is known perhaps as much for her high-profile romances as she is for her biggest box-office and chart-topping hits.
The
star, who both finalised her divorce from Marc Anthony and split from
boyfriend Casper Smart last summer, also opened about about the 'pain'
of sharing her break-ups with the public.
'When you have that
much pain, you have to anesthetize yourself in some ways,' she said,
adding that she does her best to take care of herself during darker
times.
'People do different things. Some go out and party and
sleep around, but that's just not my way. I found the comfort in someone
else. That's called being a love addict. When I face myself, I go, You
have a fear of really being on your own. So you know what? That's what
we're gonna do right now. But it took me years to get there. So first it
was learning to love myself. And then it was about facing my fears.'
The
star is now making good on the promise to make herself a priority. And
she's looking forward to helping lay to rest stereotypes about women.
'I want to prove to everyone that I can do everything and be a superwoman,' she said. 'But I have to take time for myself.'
