Barclays U21s: Leaders Chelsea keep up perfect record

Everton 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea’s Under-21 side matched the senior team’s 100% record this season when they beat Everton 2-0 to earn their third successive Division 1 victory in the defence of their Barclays Under-21 Premier League title.
Two first-half goals from Jeremie Boga gave the league leaders a convincing win at Haig Avenue, six days after Jose Mourinho’s first team won 6-3 in the Barclays Premier League encounter with Everton first team at Goodison Park. Despite the defeat, the positives for Everton were that Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone played 90 and 80 minutes respectively as they made welcome returns from long-term injuries.
The first-team duo could not prevent the in-form visitors, who started the campaign with wins against Manchester City and Norwich City, from gaining the upper hand. Isaiah Brown headed narrowly wide in the early stages before Boga put Chelsea ahead on 15 minutes. The midfielder unleashed a fine strike into the top corner after a square pass from Brown.
Everton responded well and Oviedo’s deflected strike was saved and Kone spurned a good opportunity to level. Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek had a header cleared off the line before Boga made it 2-0 with another brilliant strike, this time drilling into the far bottom corner from 25 yards.
After the break, Everton midfielder Ryan Ledson shot narrowly wide after a well-worked move and Sam Byrne went close for the hosts late on, but Chelsea preserved a clean sheet and kept up their perfect record.
