Eliaquim Mangala has day to forget after Manchester City new boy scores own goal and concedes penalty against Hull City

shares Manchester City’s new boy Eliaquim Mangala suffered a horror show in his team’s clash against Hull City on Saturday – after the £32million signing scored an own goal and conceded a penalty within the first half for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. City splashed the cash to recruit the highly-rated central defender from Porto this summer, but the 23-year-old may want to forget the first 45 minutes of the game against Hull after the match failed to go according to plan. City raced into a two-goal lead within 10 minutes at the KC Stadium after Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko both netted fine strikes to give the visitors a seemingly comfortable lead. But, Hull got back into the contest when Mangala cleared Liam Rosenior’s incoming cross by inexplicably heading it past Willy Caballero and into his own net in the 20th minute. The Frenchman then conceded a penalty 12 minutes later with his high boot to Abel Hernandez in the area before the Hull striker converted the resulting spot-kick to restore parity. Fortunately for Mangala, though, Dzeko and Frank Lampard’s second-half strikes ensured that City survived the scare and walked away with all three points.
