Beyonce: Most Grammy nominated woman ever

Beyonce has become the most Grammy nominated woman of all time.

The 33-year-old singer earned a nod when the nominations for the 2015 ceremony were announced on Friday, with her album Beyonce up for Best Urban Contemporary Album. And despite only getting one nomination, it was enough for the superstar to overtake Dolly ' with whom she was previously tied, with 46 nominations each. Now Beyonce has 47 nominations to her name, making history in the process.

She will have to earn a few more nods, however, to become the most Grammy nominated artist of all time as she is currently tied with producer David Foster in seventh place.

Beyonce also has tough competition if she wants to take home the award this year. Also nominated in the category are Chris Brown with X, Pharrell Williams with G I R L, Mali Music with Mali Is., and Jhene Aiko with Sail Out.

Other artists to be recognised among the 2015 nominations include Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams.

However, it's British singer Sam Smith who earned the most nominations this time around, with five to his name.

He is up for Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best New Artist.
Following the announcement, Sam expressed his disbelief on Twitter.

"5 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is happening??' he wrote.

Sam could also add another nomination to his list, as the Album of the Year nominees have yet to be announced. They will instead be announced on A Very Grammy Christmas, a holiday special which airs in the US tonight.
