The 33-year-old singer and her husband traveled to Iceland this week to enjoy a getaway for the rapper's 45th birthday. But Beyonce's mood is said to have dropped when she heard her friend Kelly Rowland's mother had passed away.
The couple were flying in a private helicopter, where the Crazy In Love hitmaker apparently discussed the sad news with Jay.
'Beyonce was upset,' an insider told RadarOnline. 'So she was sad on the helicopter.'
The couple were reportedly staying at a hotel called Trophy Lodge in the South of the country by the infamous Blue Lagoon, according to Iceland Magazine. A party was planned for Jay Z, but gave his wife his blessings to fly home if she needed to.
'Jay told her she should console [Kelly] and forget his party,' Radar's source went on.
However, it appears she decided to stay on. Robin Thicke and Kate Hudson are thought to have been among the guests present at Jay's festivities. But the power duo enjoyed a few romantic days first.
'They came before the party guests to have a few days to themselves. They booked two more helicopters for sight-seeing [on Friday],' said the insider, adding they 'slow danced to Let's Stay Together by Al Green' at the party.
It seems Blue Ivy was present too, because all three of them are said to have later boarded a plane to return home.
Beyonce's former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly has had a difficult week, with her mother Doris Rowland Garrison passing away on Tuesday at the age of 66.
But on Friday, she posted a photo of herself cradling her newborn baby, Titan Jewell Witherspoon.
"My only sunshine......you make me happy, when skies are grey," she wrote in the caption.
