Transfers: Latest news, rumours and gossip for Chelsea in 2014, as Eden Hazard prepares to commit to Stamford Bridge
ChelseaEden Hazard is poised to give Chelsea the best possible Christmas present by agreeing the final details of his new contract. A new £200,000-a-week five-year contract has been on the table for three months and talks have been stepped up this week over signing off the small print.
Hazard and Chelsea are now keen to finalise the 23-year-old’s contract as quickly as possible, so that a public announcement can be made.
The deal will make Hazard the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge and will kill any speculation over the Belgian’s future ahead of the Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain in February.
Meanwhile Ashley Cole will not leave Roma in January.
The former England left-back had been seen as a potential transfer target for Crystal Palace in January.
But Cole is enjoying his spell in Rome, which began last summer when he left Chelsea, and has no plans to leave Italy.
With one Hazard looking set to stay at Stamford Bridge his brother Thorgan Hazard looks likely to extend his loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach, says Sports Mole.
The German club is in talks with Chelsea to secure a permanent deal for the 21-year-old.
Thorgen has impressed during the first half of his loan spell with the Bundesliga side, and Monchengladbach are keen to retain his services beyond the end of the season.
