LiverpoolBrendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is understood to be very close to signing Saido Berahino, the West Bromwich Albion striker, in a deal worth £23.5 million, according to Metro.
Following the summer departure of Luis Suárez and the ongoing injury saga that has left Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the majority of the season, Liverpool are in desperate need for a proven goalscorer and the Merseysiders could turn to the England international.
Berahino, 21, has scored seven league goals this season and is also being tracked by Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes, the former Everton and Manchester United manager, is ready to make a move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can just months after the German midfielder arrived at Anfield, the Mirror has reported.
Moyes is hoping the opportunity of regular first-team football can lure the 20-year-old to La Liga, though can expect no favours from Rodgers who paid Bayer Leverkusen £9.75m for the player in the summer.
Since his transfer from the Bundesliga can has made just six league appearances for Liverpool.
Liverpool are also understood to be interested in signing Virgil van Dijk, the Celtic defender, though face competition from Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Express.
The Dutchman, who joined Celtic in June 2013, has been linked with a move away from the Scottish champions since the summer and could leave for a fee of around £10m.
However, manager Ronny Deila believes the 23-year-old will stay at Celtic Park.
"He’s very happy. I have spoken with him and we are very happy to keep him as well," said Deila. "He’s a top player. I am so happy to have him. He is enjoying his football, playing well. That’s positive. He is such an important player for us."
